Can’t let Savage go – Teaser clip
Prior to our battle at the Keepmoat this evening, I thought I’d give everyone a sneak peek at one of the tracks from the forthcoming “Fan Fayre for the Commons People CD. Hope it gets everyone up for the game! Just click on the player below to hear an excerpt from the song.
Lyrics excerpt:
There were those said “his legs have gone”
He nearly went to the Lebanon
But now he twirls the Black and White in sky-y -y
High above his head with a touch of Derby Pride
Sav is setting team alight
Now I know…
We can’t let Robbie go!
Fan Fayre for the Commons People!
Following the stupendous interest in the “Commons People” song and video, my partner and I, along with other interested parties the UK, are financing a new CD with the above title. It will feature 10 Derby related songs and hopefully include the “Commons People” video so people can put it on their iphones etc. We’re aiming to have it on sale within the next couple of months, and previews of songs will be aired along the way. The tracklisting (in no particular order) will be:
Derby Pride
The Co-Op Cow
Commons People
Can’t let Savage go (to the tune of cant let maggie go)
Tealinho
We’ll always be the Derby (To the tune of We didnt start the fire)
Steve Bloomer’s (still) Watching – New version
Wooly Bully
It Must be Clough (to the tune of it must be love)
The Derby Ram (modern remake of trad.song)
More than half of the album is completed at the time of writing.
In the song Wooly Bully, I want to feature some funny fan stories, so use this thread to tell me them, and I’ll feature the best in the song’s lyrics with some namechecks.

Commons People – The Video!
Following the incredible surge of interest in the song, I felt it only right to make some kind of accompanying video – so here it is, with lots of help from my French partner Miki, otherwise known as “La Ramette” – (not to be confused with rainette – which by remarkable coincidence is also a little frog.)
Any one still needing a free download of the song, leave a comment on this blog and I’ll sort it!
Just for all you fellow Derby fans
Following a great post on the 606 boards with re-worked lyrics for “Common People” by Pulp, I recorded it this afternoon for your delight! for the uninitiated, it’s the tale of a player a team let go for nothing, only for the guy to flourish under their arch-rivals and inflict defeat upon them over, and over, and over again!
Just click on the player to listen!
and here’s the lyrics, courtesy of Addison’s a monster!
He came from Forest with a reputation
for eating pies and never trying too hard
“tub of lard”
One good game out of every seven
Forest fans cried gleefully when he came
And then in four Derbies time they said
We want to live like Commons people
we want to do what ever Commons people do
want to drink like Commons people
want to watch him take games right out of view
what else could i do
I said Ill see what I can do
We took him to the city ground
where Forest fans all said that he’d hide away
on that day
The florest fans said weve got no money
We just laughed and said “your so funny” then we scored
“Cant see any reds smiling”
we said
We want to live like Commons people
we want to do what ever Commons people do
want to drink like Commons people
want to watch him take games right out of view
But they didnt understand
They just cried and left the stands…
Call him Judas all you like
Cos he makes Forest look shi-ite
Should have offered him some more
Cos now its us that see him score
And you’ll never get it right
Cos when your laid in bed at night
watching roaches climb the wall
If you still had Kris he could come and fix it all
You’ll never live like commons people,
you’ll never do what commons people do,
you’ll never cheer like commons people,
we’ll never watch our team slide out of view,
and dance and drink and screw,
because there’s nothing else to do.
He plays on the left he plays on the right
That boy Kris Commons makes forest look shi-ite
Sing along with the Commons people,
sing along and it might just get you through,
laugh along with the Commons people,
laugh along even though they’re laughing at you,
and the stupid things that you do.
Because you think that Trees are cool
Sing along with the Commons people
One More Day – A videotrailer for a Novel
Just when I thought I’d turned my hand to everything, Miki and I got all caught up in the excitement of our fellow Cafe Cremer Michael Pokocky has he prepared to unleash his novel “One More Day” across the world via the internet. We wanted to create a trailer advertising the book, but not really like a movie trailer, so that your imagination would still work it’s magic when you read the real thing. We don’t have too much technology at our disposal, but we tried to make up for that with creativity, and I think we pulled off a decent job. The music for the piece was written pretty much on the fly, and as with Susan Cornelis’ Video , I awoke with a theme in my head. Later the same day, I had another piano theme in my head, and I linked the two to create the music here, with some big power chords for dramatic effect. I have a range of great effects at my disposal in the studio, and all the sounds you hear on the clip are created there. Enjoy – and -

Strange Costumes – 2 – Draped in Strange Feathers
The “Altered Book” project by my friend, American writer and artist Shelley M House has infused my own songwriting with a fresh sense of originality and imagination. Her words are original and thought-provoking, and by forcing myself to follow her text to the letter, I present myself with a series of interesting obstacles, from a musical perspective. This means I let her words dictate the flow and the mood of the piece. The dichotomy here is the fact that I have always written my own lyrics, so although I’m faced with a challenge, I’m also freed from my own preconceptions. I can’t “tailor” a line to get me out of trouble. I have to make the music fit. If that means taking an unexpected left turn, that’s where it goes. If it means the second verse is phrased differently to the first, that’s what happens. There may be a chrous, there may not, and it certainly won’t be repeated. So…by following the one rule: Faithfully reproduce Shelley’s lyric – the piece emerges – seemingly having conformed to no rules whatsoever! It’s a fascinating and addictive way to work, and I think this project will grow and grow! © Music Kev Moore/ Lyrics Shelley M House 2009
My yearly treat
Approximately one year ago, Californian artist Susan Cornelis, who also, through Cafe Crem, has become a dear friend – proposed me to create a soundtrack for her “Soul Sketching” video.
It was a challenge, and great from fun, and from it came the musical piece “Eire” which was composed specifically for her video. a year on, and Susan has created Number 2 in the Soul Sketching series, and once again was kind enough to consider me to create the music. (Guess I did something right the first time!) I stayed with the Gaelic theme, and used a recorder as a nod to Susan’s Norwegian ancestry. The entire melody popped into my head as I awoke from a dream at 5 a.m. – and much to Miki’s amusement, I dashed into the studio to get the idea down before I forgot it. Like many Celtic pieces, it is a simple tune, the appeal, I hope, being its gentleness. The intro and outro recorder melody is reinforced with an acoustic guitar following along note for note. I hope I have captured the mood Susan wanted. This kind of interaction – of which I’m fortunate to enjoy with many of my friends in Cafe Crem – is so energising!

The Philosophy Sketches Project
It’s a busy but interesting time for moment, with ideas flying thick and fast around the Internet meeting place we like to call Cafe Crem. It’s a little corner of Cyberspace where like-minded artists, musicians and writers get together over a coffee and enjoy and support each others ideas and goals. As we’ve come to know one another better, various collaborations have taken place. Miki and I have done many together as you might expect, and I’m currently working on a soundtrack for an art video by Californian artist Susan Cornelis, and the “Altered Book” project with Shelley House is ongoing. But the video I present here took me in yet another direction. I had to conceive of a way to “perform” the thoughts of our friend, Canadian writer Michael Pokocky, and compose accompanying music to complement his wonderful “philosophical sketch” series. I tried to cresate a piece of music that was very simple, very repetitive, but with the scope to become epic in proportions, and I tried to identify the more contemplative statements and the more assertive ones, arranging them in some kind of order of intensity, to build the dramatic effect. in harmony with the music, I hope I’ve achieved what i set out to do, ending on a positive high, which is what we all hope for, don’t you think? Enjoy the video!

Strange Costumes – The Video
It felt like a natural progression to create a video to accompany this joint project between myself and Shelley House, an American artist/writer and friend. It features a host of images I felt appropriate to the wonderful lyrics, plus a few shots of me thrown in, plus a painting of me by Miki, plus some of Shelley’s bird illustrations, morphed and tampered with in iPhoto and Windows movie maker!
I enjoyed working on this, part of Shelley’s “Altered book” project, and the good news is….Part two coming soon!
